Where Organizational Science Meets Computational Design
We believe organizational design is an engineering discipline: measurable, testable, and optimizable. Reconfig exists to replace intuition-driven restructuring with data-driven structural intelligence.
From Research to Platform
Reconfig began at the intersection of three disciplines that rarely share a room: organizational theory, computer science, and operations research. A team of academics and practitioners recognized that the Design Structure Matrix, a tool born in systems engineering, could be adapted to model the hidden interdependencies inside organizations. The first prototype was built in 2018 as a research instrument, designed to prove that organizational structure could be computationally optimized.
Version one launched in 2019 with funding from Innovation Norway, the Norwegian government's instrument for industry innovation. Over the following years, the methodology was refined through engagements across government, energy, agriculture, and technology. Each sector stress-tested the platform against a different structural reality and revealed new dimensions of what computational organizational design could achieve.
Today, Reconfig is a global platform delivered through a growing partner network of management consultancies and organizational design specialists. What started as an academic hypothesis is now an operational system used to design organizations that are structurally ready for the challenges ahead.
